The Photographer’s Diary : December 2013
I hate to admit that I’m a little late with this edition of TPD. Originally, I planned to write in November but the weeks have just flown by so I’ve merged the two.
As well as bringing you up-to-date with what’s been happening, I wanted to use this post as a little reflection on 2013 and to sum up what has been quite a remarkable year. Who would have thought that 12 months on from finishing Project 365 that all the things I set out to achieve would actually happen. I’m usually not very good at sticking to New Year Resolutions – the usual ambitions of ‘getting fit’ and ‘eating more healthily’ never stick around for long, if at all, so I decided that I wouldn’t make any for 2013 as such. Obviously, I had things I wanted to do and hoped to accomplish, but they were more focussed and things I knew that would make me happy.
I’m reminded of one of my closing sentences from my final 365 post on 31st December 2012: “may 2013 be the best year of all our lives!” I think that was the pivotal point, that was the moment I subconsciousley set myself a goal, a goal that needed to be achieved. There were of course a couple of recurring themes throughout 2012’s 365; the struggle to find a full time job, the ambition to have my own place as well as the Olympics (well, couldn’t miss that out now could I?!)
Twelve months on, and I’ve achieved both of those goals. I now work the University of Birmingham, and I’ve bought my own place. It’s been one hell of a busy year, one that has flown by. As we now approach the end of another year, I’m contemplating what 2014 will hold and hope it will be as good as this one.
The picture for this edition is the official Ben Lowe Photography Christmas Card of 2013.
It’s a short and sweet edition for December – all that’s left for me to say is I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a very Merry New Year.
See you in 2014!
